copied from a Thomas Hart Benton painting with the same title
This copy of the Thomas Hart Benton painting was commissioned to hang in a blue grass venue in Ashville North Carolina, called the Feed and Seed. I hope to develope my own series of ‘regionalist paintings’ featuring the revival of grass roots music and agrarian culture. Benton seems to be a kindred spirit to Wendell Berry as he took his high brow Paris art education and applied it to cultural themes he found in rural farm life, seeing beauty and goodness in the ordinary and commonly dispised folks. He was an artist who worked out of his fidelity to place and community.
